Understanding Google Chrome

Thursday 04 October 2012, 8:06 pm >> Filed under: Web

I recently discovered a cool web-book explaining how Google Chrome was designed and tested. This book was adapted as a comics by Scott McCloud, whose knowledge about comics is extremely vast. The result is an easy-to-read technical document, really worth to have a look at.

You can read the book here, and check Scott McCloud’s website here.

New website of the Local Energy Network association.

Saturday 07 July 2012, 6:30 pm >> Filed under: Web

I am now a member of the Local Energy Network association, which provides technical expertise and helps developing renewable energy sources in Nepal. My role in this association is to keep the internet web site updated and promote this site.

I have therefore created a WordPress theme based on the association graphical chart, and did my best to optimize the website for search engines, using the WordPress SEO plugin, and registering the sitemap in Google’s Webmaster Tools.

Be sure to check the following link: http://localenergynetwork.org if you want to learn more about the association and the projects being supported by the association in Nepal.

More data is better

Wednesday 20 June 2012, 12:26 am >> Filed under: OpenData

I am currently interested in OpenData and DataJournalism. I have recently discovered several sites of interest which I would like to share:

OpenData:

  • The French government OpenData website, providing lots of data sets from the public administration in all domain.
  • The French government Data contest (“Dataconnexions“), a competition where anyone can propose an innovative use of the massive public data sets now available on data.gouv.fr
  • The French Institute for Forestry, which provides large data sets, but also graphic visualization of the state of the flora in France, on very detailed maps.

DataJournalism:

  • The french reference for DataJournalism is Owni.fr. They follow every news about data visualisation and suggests many very interesting links, like:
  • A very good graphical presentation of key economic indicators in European countries of the Eurozone through the last economic crisis.

Tools:

  • Flash is not everything. Check out the d3 Javascript library which provides functions to create graphical presentations of data sets.

I hope to find some time to create my own mash-up from public data, and why not compete in the Dataconnexion contest…
